CONFIDENCE EPIPHANY

A good friend of mine was helping coach a high school basketball team in a recent tournament. They were a few players short so he took his younger son to fill in. He knew his son had the ability and would be able to contribute. Well, he did help the team and he got an unexpected benefit as well.

The benefit came in the way of an epiphany of sorts. The young man went back to play with his team and in his next game realized “I was able to play with those older guys so these younger players can’t stop me!” His realization was confirmed and he did very well. This epiphany gave him confidence in is ability and empowered him to a play at a new level.

I had the opportunity to talk with him a few days ago about his experience. I asked him if it was fun playing the way he did in that game after the epiphany and he smiled and said “YEAH”. Then I asked what if you could play that way more often? He replied something like “That would be awesome!” I explained that he can, all he has to do is recreate how he was thinking going into and during that game.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again and again “THE WAY YOU THINK AFFECTS HOW YOU PLAY!” This young man has learned this simple but vital lesson and I am excited for him and his future.

THINK POSITIVE!       TRUST YOUR ABILITY!       PLAY WITH POWER!
